Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever, launching on Oculus Quest March 25th, attracts influencers to inaugural competition
Los Angeles – Mar. 20, 2021 - Broadcast live during tonight’s SXSW Gaming Awards, produced by IGN, professional esports commentator Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez hosted online content creators Cerberusarms, Naysy, ProjectJamesify, and Dan Ryckert (formerly of Giant Bomb) who battled it out to become the first ever Zombieland Invitational champion.
XR Games also announced a partnership with the VR Master League (VRML) to organise the Zombieland Invitational esports events this year. And confirmed that the game will release for Oculus Quest on Thursday March 25th 2021.
“Love the challenging arcade style gameplay and the classic Zombieland humour it delivers. I had a blast.” - Naysy
Zombieland VR presents a new zombie killing racing sport that combines classic lightgun play from House of the Dead with the obsessive time-chasing of Trackmania. Fast and focussed courses with high skill play make Zombieland VR fiercely addictive and highly watchable.
The influencers Cerberusarms, ProjectJamesify, Naysy, and Dan Ryckert battled it out to see who would achieve the fastest time in a knockout speedrun tournament. ProjectJamesify pulled ahead of Cerberusarms in tightly fought competition becoming the defending Zombieland Invitational champion.
“The headshot activated slowmo is seriously addictive.” - Cerburusarms
This was followed by the official announcement that XR Games, in collaboration with VR Master League (VRML), will be running a series of official Zombieland Invitational esports events in 2021 which is open to all sharpshooters.
Established in early 2017, VRML is a community driven platform that supports the most competitive VR shooter games on the market. VRML officially manages the competitive scenes for VR games such as Onward, Echo Arena, and others.
Players who want to take their skills to the next level can sign up now for the upcoming Zombieland Invitational by visiting zombielandvrgame.com.
“The most zombie blasting fun I've ever had!”- ProjectJamesify
Developed using Unity, an industry-leading real-time development platform and suite of development tools and APIs, Zombieland VR' combines classic arcade light-gun shooting with split-second racing mechanics.
Fans of the hit ‘Zombieland’ movie franchise can step into VR and join Tallahassee, Wichita, Columbus and Little Rock as they invent a new kind of sport; a zombie-killing race called the Zombieland Invitational.
The goal is to be fast! Two quick zombie headshots turn the world slow, kicking in the adrenaline, giving players more time to rack up combos, get faster times and claw their way to the top of the leaderboards. This results in the addictive, replayable, zombie killing race experience that is Headshot Fever. Boost your play with awesome weapons, powerful upgrades for head-popping, clock-stopping, zombie-killing arcade action!
“A singular focus on fast-paced arcade shooting.” - Dan Ryckert
"We're thrilled to collaborate with XR Games to provide backup in this fight against zombies." says Alex ‘DaKinMan’, Founder and CEO of VR Master League. "Growing competitive scenes and showcasing exciting competitive VR is our focus in VRML. Providing services for events such as this Zombieland VR Invitational is one of our goals and we're glad to be a part of it!"
“XR Games set out to make a VR game that was all about tight, focussed, shooting gameplay with nuanced mechanics driving a superior level of skill. Watching the influencers in the first Zombieland Invitational demonstrated to us the degree of excellence that players can develop, which becomes apparent when you play the game,” said Bobby Thandi, Founder and CEO, XR Games.
