XR Games reveals first look at brand new Leeds studio

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

  • The award-winning VR/AR studio’s latest round of investment is being used to move the team to a brand new studio in the centre of Leeds

  • XR Games' new working space will be able to house its near 100-strong creative team as the studio continues to work on both original IP and licensed titles

  • The studio is currently undergoing construction and is set to be complete by the end of 2022

In June 2022, Leeds based AR/VR developer XR Games announced its latest $7m (£5.9m) round of investment led by existing investors act media ventures, Praetura Ventures and Maven.

With this latest round of investment, XR has been able to expand its team to take on multiple projects, pioneer innovative original IP development, further research AR and VR technologies, and continue to develop itself as a leading innovator within the virtual reality sector.

It’s also enabling XR Games to move to a brand new studio in the centre of Leeds.

The location of the new studio is no stranger to XR Games, either. In a poetic moment that shows off the studio’s meteoric rise over the past few years, XR Games is returning to the same building where it was conceived five years ago.

Back in 2017, XR Games consisted of just 5 members of staff working in a small room in a huge office location. Fast forward five years, and XR Games is proudly returning to take over the building, now with 100 members of staff, and a hit game under its belt.

Plans for the future

XR Games’ future aspirations for the studio include keeping the original industrial interior of the Grade II listed building, whilst creating a modern and creative working space.

Features will include:

  • A large two story atrium with a fully branded XR Games bar installed

  • Two floors of open plan and collaborative working spaces

  • A dedicated games room for XR staff to relax and play games together

  • A fully equipped gym for staff

Construction is going well, with key milestones being hit weekly. The team is set to move to the new studio space and be ready to work in our new home by the end of 2022.

A word from our Founder and CEO

XR Games Founder and CEO Bobby Thandi had the following to say about the studio’s new home and its current progress.

“Before construction started, our vision was to create a space that enabled our employees to express their creativity to the highest level, and allow XR Games to reach its fullest potential.

Even in this early phase we can already envision how this new space will take us to that next level; enabling our teams to create even more amazing AR/VR experiences in the future.

This new studio space has been a long time coming, and we’re so excited to move into our new home and start this next chapter in XR Games’ history. I can’t wait to see what the final space will look like!”

What comes next?

We still have a way to go until our new studio space finishes completion, so expect more development updates in the coming months to keep you updated on how our new home is coming along.
