XR Games attends Games Careers Week 2022

XR Games team members have this week been talking about their careers and what it means to work in video games at Games Careers Week 2022.

Toby Woolhouse (Producer), Emily Dervey (Junior 3D Artist) and Andy Driver (Talent Acquisition Manager) all attended Games Careers Week, which was started to inspire people from every background to discover careers in the UK’s fastest growing creative industry - video games.

Taking place at Sheffield’s National Videogame Museum, XR Games employees have been fortunate enough to speak to over 200 students aged between 12 and 16 about what it’s like to work in the games industry as well as passing on some future career tips too.

Toby Woolhouse says "I discovered I loved making video games when I was still in school, and it was inspiring to see that same enthusiasm from the kids I spoke to. I can't wait to see what this next generation of game developers will create!"

Andy Driver says “It's really important to me that the games industry engages with future generations, as one of the UK's most successful industries it's imperative that children from all backgrounds know that a long well-paid career making games is an option for them. It was great to speak to so many eager students and hopefully inspire them into making games, I hope I can end up hiring them in the future!”

Emily Dervey says “I had a really great time talking to the students about my role as a 3D artist, and telling them the different routes to get into it. It’s important to me that kids from all backgrounds know this industry is open to them! It was also really fun talking about their favourite games and learning what they were interested in, and comparing it to what the games landscape was like for me when I was their age.”
