Junior Level Designer
The goal at XR Games is to be the best developer of VR titles in the world.
We are a multi award-winning game development studio that specialises in immersive VR games. The studio has a history of full-scale development from concept through to submission, working with prestigious partners such as Sony Pictures VR, Meta, and Rovio Entertainment.
Since 2020 our team has grown from 20 full-time members to almost 100 by the close of 2022, due to the success and critical acclaim of our previous projects such as Zombieland: Headshot Fever and The Angry Birds Movie 2 VR: Under Pressure.
Throughout 2023 & 2024 our team will be working on multiple major projects with recognisable IPs and licences as we continue to grow and invest in our future.
We are looking for a Junior Level Designer who will be involved in both design and production. This is an entry-level role meaning we do not expect you to have any commercial work experience however we do expect to see a portfolio of your work showcasing projects that demonstrate your level design skills.
The right person for this will be naturally creative and curious with an incredibly strong attention to detail. We will be looking for examples of this in all your documentation including your portfolio, CV & covering letter.
Key skills include:
Level design - maximising the value and variety of player experience
Verbal, visual and written communication - talk with the team; create and deliver slide presentations; write design documents for team and client communications
Ideation and concept creation - continually generate ideas and development directions
Bonus Skills & Experience
Experience using Unity
Interest and experience of Mixed Reality technology games
Understanding and experience of UX design, especially in VR
Knowledge of gameplay styles on different platforms including mobile, console, PC and paper
Storytelling ability, especially in dialogue form
Understanding of programming basics and mathematics
An understanding of video game history
This role will require the person to have a regular presence in the studio every week. Hybrid working is standard, and we will assist financially with relocation for those looking to do so, but full remote working is not possible for this role.
